Jordan's Food Blog
I rediscovered a few of Jordan's food blog posts today.
My favorite is definitely this one about her grandpa's garden.
Here's one about blackbean hummus.
And here you can meet Globson McIcequeen and remember how funny Jordan always was.

Jordan themed radio hour
Here are some of the requests for Jordan themed Radio hour
Ellen Harris (mom) -
Here it is Crystal, thank you so much again for doing this.
I chose "Sing a Song" by Earth, Wind and Fire because Jordan was always singing and she would often spontaneously just start dancing. So, along with the song's theme that singing will make your day better which was definitely the way Jordan felt, the song makes me want to get up and dance with abandon like she did.
Elisha Harris (sister) -
Hi Crystal! I'm sorry I'm a little late in sending you this, but I thought I'd send you a little list of songs that remind me of Jordan/songs that she introduced me to for your radio show that you're having. I'm sending quite a few, feel free to use as little or as many as you'd like.
Here they are:
Valerie by Amy Winehouse
September by Earth, Wind and Fire
Samson by Regina Spektor
Ghost of Corporate Future by Regina Spektor
The House that Jack Built by Aretha Franklin
Breakable by Ingrid Michaelson
Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
Sun Hands by Local Natives
Honky Cat by Elton John
Dog Days Are Over by Florence and the Machine
Home by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes
OH! I almost forgot a song. You might already have it. Blackbird by the Beatles. It was the very first song she learned to play on the guitar!
Jo introduced me to Regina Spektor and I've been in love with her music ever since. I distinctly remember her showing me the song "Samson" and listening to it in the car when she was driving me home from school one day (I was a freshman in HS and she was a senior). I remembering thinking how beautiful the melody was, it's such a "Jordan-type" song.
Matt Harris (brother) -
"Jordan's Song" by Julia McKinnis
My friend Julia just released an album on iTunes, and one of the songs on there is inspired by Jo. The song title is "Jordan's Song", and the artist is Julia McKinnis.
Julia is my oldest friend in the world, and Jo had almost as much of an impact on Julia's life as she did mine. The song was in the works for well over a year before it was released along with the rest of her album last month, and I think it came out wonderfully.
Adam (uncle) -
The lyrics of "Unwritten" are powerful and Jo-like... "live your life with arms wide open"... "I break tradition, sometimes my tries are outside the lines"... "the rest is still unwritten" (the sad part that really applies)
Stephanie (Friend) -
Hey crystal,
We used to listen to "tightrope" and dance around before the weekend. I remember the first time she should made me listen too it I was all like "jo, common, lets listen to something a little more party!" And she was like "are you kidding? This is as party as it gets!" And over time she made me love it, and now it is my pump up song. She always made me more open minded.
Its funny every time we would switch off using our Pandora accounts on the beast (the nickname for my giant laptop) in my dorm she made me love a new song that I never would have listened to.
There is this one by Ingrid Michelson... "you and I" that brings me back to jordan and the whole bun dun... she loved ingrid and more than once I would come home to a beautiful girls singing along with ingrid and dancing around or even (occasionally) cleaning! Hahaha.
In a lot of says ingrid embodies Jordan's disposition. All you need is love. We have our love to pay the bills. let the love begin.
There is also one called "country road" or something like that that claire used to play on the guitar in the porch and jo would sing. It totally showed her often hidden texas side
Kevin (friend) -
Hi Crystal,
I'm one of Candice's (and of course, Jordan's) friends who received a note about the upcoming "Playlist for Jordan." This seems like a really beautiful way for us to celebrate our friendship and love for Jordan -- thank you so much for giving us this opportunity to share!
I've got 2 song requests to add to the playlist -- I've also included a little explanation behind the songs I chose. Hopefully one of them can make it into your playlist :).
Song Requests:
1) Troublemaker by Weezer: although I wouldn't think of Jordan as a troublemaker, her playful and adventurous spirit always added the right amount of mischief to a fun weekend night. This song request comes from a very good memory of mine -- when I joined Jordan, Steph, and several other friends of ours for a trip up north to Au Train (in the UP) for a Summer weekend after Freshman year. This trip was a really great experience where we were able to bond by the campfire, go hiking on the shore of Lake Superior, look at the beautiful northern sky that Jordan loved, and watch the progress of Jordan knitting the multicolored blanket that remained a fixture of her bedroom for the next 3 years. Before the trip, I put together a few CDs for the long car ride. At some point in the ride, we came across this song (Troublemaker) and all began to sing. There's a part in the song where the lyrics go, "marrying a biotch, having seven kiods, giving up and growing old and hoping there's a God...". I distinctly remember how we all laughed as we sang these words -- I don't know what was so funny (besides the slap-happy attitude in the car), but to this day i still play that song and sing those words out loud laughing. I guess that's one way Jordan continues to make me laugh :)
2) Sea of Love by Cat Power: after Jordan left us, someone set up a dropbox folder for everyone to share photos, songs, etc. of Jordan to help us keep her memory alive. On that dropbox, I came across a recording of Jordan singing this song while playing on guitar. I wasn't there when the recording was made, but whenever I hear this song I can imagine very clearly how Jordan must have looked sitting there and singing. Between the warm sound of Jordan's voice, the soft background of the guitar, and the comforting lyrics that embody Jordan so well, I instantly remember how I felt whenever I was around Jordan -- happy and laughing and completely relaxed. Oftentimes I still cry when I hear this song, because I miss her and wish she could still be here with us. Because this song reminds me so much of Jordan, I often sing it to myself when I'm thinking of her and hoping she knows that I still love her very much. In this way, I feel that this song still helps me send along my love to Jo and keep our friendship alive.
Apologies for the long paragraphs -- I know some of them are a little personal, but this was my first chance in a long time to express these feelings. Thanks again for putting this together -- I bet it'll be one hell of a playlist :).
Candice (friend) -
"Tender" by the Blur. I remember Jordan said it was maybe the favorite song I had sent her. I think she related to the lyrics then, and I relate to the lyrics now.
Andrew (friend) -
Hi Crystal,
I'm not sure we've ever met, but I'm really glad you're doing this show. I would like to request the song, "Life in Technicolor II" by Coldplay, from their EP, Prospekt's March.
I'm requesting it because the original Life in Technicolor played recently on my iPod while I was walking through the center of Temuco, Chile, where I'm living these days, and all of a sudden, I thought about Jordan. The melody felt like it celebrated the richness of life, and I looked around at the people I passed, people walking, talking, getting on and off buses, hugging, kissing, young people, old people, everyone and I thought about how lucky we are to walk this Earth and share it with the beautiful people that accompany us on the way. Jordan was one of the most beautiful people I've ever known, and I know that she reveled in the richness of the world we live in. It's wonderful and sad at the same time to remember her and the light that she radiated, while realizing that she can't revel in that richness, that beauty, that love anymore. I'm requesting "Life in Technicolor II" because the words feel like they fit exactly what I was feeling about Jordan while I listened to the original. Thinking about Jordan and listening to the lyrics, I get goosebumps.
If you consider reading or sharing any of that, please feel free to cut and edit it as you like. It was pretty stream-of-consciousness.
Thanks again for doing this.

"Home" by Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeroes
Ian Godofsky (friend) -
"Shake it and break it" by Carolina Chocolate Drops
Deirdre (friend) -
Hey Crystal,
I'm sure that other people might send this song to you, but I cannot think of any other song that brings memories to me of Jordan more than 'Sea of Love.' She did an amazing rendition of this with Claire, and hearing her voice always brings me back to her. I'm including the file for the song she did in case you haven't ever had a chance to hear it!
So wonderful that reminder's of Jo's presence will be on the radio for us all :)
Ajooni (friend) -
"Baby it's cold outside" by Dean Martin
She sang it sometimes in the shower, and I could hear it through the wall <3
"Shake it Out" by Florence and the machine

"Wagon Wheel" by Old Crow Medicine Show
Sophomore year of college, Jordan and I decided to be workout buddies. We went to the gym a couple of times, but gyms depress me because I feel like a mouse on an endless wheel and start to get all existential. So Jordan suggested we do yoga every Saturday morning instead. I would drag my hungover ass to this magical little yoga/dance studio Jordan found (I'd be a little late..), and we'd go about our poses. Jordan loved tree pose and doing the splits and being all flexible, and I loved Shivasana. Shivasana is the pose where you lay on your back at the very end of class and sometimes fall asleep. Jordan nicknamed me Sleepy Poon, and the rule was that I had to at least do a liiiitle yoga. After, we'd go up to her dorm room, and giggle and talk, and she'd play me music. I remember listening to Wagon Wheel and telling her that this song feels like her spirit. She was the best at rockin' me, and I love her always.
"Brandy, You're a Fine Girl"
I honestly don't even remember when she showed this song to me, but it reminds me of her childhood (or rather, what I've painted of her childhood in my head) -- of listening to oldies but goodies with her beautiful family in Texas. This song seems to come on right when I'm taking life a little too seriously and/or eating chinese food. I like to think Jordan keeps in touch by playing me music when I need to hear it most. Also, when I see large flocks of birds in the air, and when they suddenly change direction, I think of her. That sounds unrelated, but I guess what I'm trying to say is that I see her and feel her everywhere.
Lawrence (friend) -
"Dance Dance Dance" by Lykke Li
This song reminds me of Jordan, because as others have mentioned, Jordan liked to dance and so many of my favorite memories with her were dancing (during our study sessions, whenever!). There's something therapeutic about this song and letting go and dancing. And that's how I felt whenever I was with Jo.

Jordan's songs
Thursday, March 20th, Crystal will play Jordan themed songs for Crystal Radio Hour on WCBN from 9-10 pm EST. Leave her voicemails, 20 seconds or less, about what Jordan memory you have associated with the song (message me for phone number). The hour will end with a recording of Jordan singing Cat Power's cover of "Sea of Love."
Here were some of Jordan's favorites. Jordan gave Poonam's cousin, Bree, this letter and a decorated mix CD for her birthday. Bree can tell the rest of the story, but for now, here are the songs.

Hello friends & family of Jordan,
As I have told a few of you, I am running the Chicago Marathon this October (Sunday, 10/13 to be exact) and as a participant I will be raising money for the Jordan Harris Memorial Fund. I have set up a fundraising page through the Chicago Marathon here: http://www.crowdrise.com/jehmemorial
I will keep this short since I have described in a lot more detail on the fundraiser page my reasons for choosing to support Jordan's Memorial Fund as part of my training for the race. There is no monetary goal for this fundraiser and the amount I raise in no way affects my participation in the actual marathon - I simply want to use this as a way to celebrate the impact that Jordan had in our lives.
Also, I would love to include any pictures that you'd like to share on the fundraising page of your favorite memories with Jordan.

Jordan's Song
Julia says:
This is all I can say about Jordan: she was the big sister I never had, and the absolute greatest role model a person could ask for. She truly lived her life, and I wanted to write a song that reflected the beautiful soul that she was. I love you, Jo. Keep looking over us.
